Vladimir Konstantinov, a former star for the Detroit Red Wings, was in Lansing on Wednesday to support the reform of no-fault insurance.

One of the ten states with a statute requiring a deposit on beverage containers is Michigan. However, since the pandemic, when return locations were closed for months, Michigan’s bottle redemption rate has decreased. According to the Michigan Department of Treasury, 88% of beverage containers were returned for refunds in 2019. In 2020, the redemption rate fell to 73%. Since then, it has slowly increased, remaining constant at 75% for the past two years.

He joined other tragic auto accident survivors who are asking Lawmakers will revise the 2019 auto insurance regulations.
When a limo crashed in 1997, Konstantinov went from celebrating a Stanley Cup victory to fighting for his life. Though he lived, he had a catastrophic brain injury.
He now requires round-the-clock assistance to get around and manage his life. His auto insurance covered his medical expenses, but Michigan later approved retroactive vehicle no-fault rules. The bill reduced healthcare coverage by 45% overall. The cuts were implemented in 2021 during a labor shortage as inflation drove up prices.
According to businesses, providing care is no longer profitable. Patients have been dismissed from care, forced to rely on relatives, or faced institutionalization.
